International talk like a pirate day

International Talk like a pirate day is held each year on September 19th.
If you want to know more you can read about it here http://www.talklikeapirate.com/howto.html
It has been going for more than 10 years and continues to be popular throughout the world.

When my daughter was at University they did it as a fundraiser.
Here's my layout with photos from that day. You can tell they were having fun, can't you?
Over at Lollipop ladies the challenge is for Pirate Lollipops with the additional criteria of water.
In my case, I've made my pirate ship sail on a sea of lace.
We would love to see your entries during the next month.
More details can be found here.

Stuck?! June 15th sketch

I always love doing Stuck?! sketches. They seem to suit my scrapping style.
This is the latest one.

First I used a prima mask with white gesso to create a spotted background.

Next, I did all the layering. I've used a lemon & white spotted pp as my mat,a MME button card for my journaling, and another paper with people on it as my strip across.
Francheville makes the red &white spotted ribbon & matching buttons which were ideal on this.

The lips are a sticker I retrieved from a coffee sample.
There is a Flair button with the letter E for my daughter's name .To that I tied twine(also colour matched) and dribbled it across the page.
Finally, I inked some Memory Maze mushrooms white, then coloured the spots red with gel pens.
Hope you like it. Lots of fun to do!

Color Throwdown CTD 248

I love the colours offered this week on Color Throwdown.
Here's the palette

I started with a pink card, adding "Imaginisce" Enchanted floral paper. Then a strip of Kraft coloured paper went across it.
I stamped a flower on to crumb cake paper and matted it on Carribean striped card. This ,I put on the right hand side of the paper strip with my sentiment on the left.
A  pink pearl is the flower centre and smaller ones mark the corners of my card. I drew borders using a gel pen.

Another freaking scrapping challenge

The sketch is this

and my layout looks like this
The background paper is Sandy Lion.
The turquoise paper I created myself using potato printing in the shape of a fan. It was at an Art course I attended recently.
The ginger mulberry paper and chipboard "Brother" is from memory maze and painted with Kaisercraft Sea Breeze. The monster brad is also kaisercraft.
I put the ginger tag through my cuttlebug for some texture.
The OH is Doodlebug designs and the dragonflies are Little birdie .I've purposely left my journaling strips blank as my cousin can write on them. These are her grandkids.

The color room #153

This is the palette for the Color room #153Picture
As it is mid winter here, I can't relate to the beach idea.
Instead I've gone for 3 photos of my cousin, Pat and her granddaughter,Isla.
We recently met up for a cuppa and of course the children had babychinos.
The photos had a fair amountof brown, so I used a touch on my layout as well, only on the background circle. I've used a hand made flower from vintage lace, plus Kaiser resin flowers and tiny Prima blossoms.

Using office supplies at Use your stuff

This weeks challenge is to use office supplies at Use your stuff.
I was all set to make a layout then I had an inspiration to make a card instead. I've used a metal eyelet on my tag plus a large paper clip (K&Co Smash clip) to hold on my number 3.

Eating Banana Bread at Stuck? sketches

The sketch at the top is for Stuck?!'s first sketch for June.
My layout features Henry eating banana bread watched on by his dad,Guy.
I've used Kaisercraft "Penny Royale" collection background paper with wood veneer and Madame boutique paper that matched Henry's jumper and the clock misting.
I also used 2 strips from papers and a Kaiser resin flower.
The 2013 is inked with pinecone and is from Memory maze and the journaling tag is from October Afternoon.

A negative sketch challenge on Soul scrappers with more inchies.

Here's a layout I did for Soul Scrappers as a negative sketch challenge.
I wanted to put it on here as well, as I've used more of my Counterfeit Kit, as well as chipboard title from Memory Maze. There were more inchies as part of the sketch and I was able to embellish with the toothpick flags as the colours matched quite well.

Inchies at Ruby's rainbow

I'm not a cardmaker but enjoy trying different paper skills and using up my leftover pieces from layouts.
On this card I've measured 3 inchies. I'd forgotten how small an inch was.
The large basket of flowers is an adhesive picture. I've kept it simple as I'm using it as a notelet to an aunt.

Flutterby Wednesday #245

This is Flutterby Wednesday #245 and for my card I've chosen to make the butterflies on the background paper.
As I have no punches(yes you read correctly!) I used 3 flowers inked around the edges with gold to be the circles. There is no sentiment as I am using it as a notelet. I hope you like it!
Here's my entry.

Sketchabilities # 93

The sketchabilities sketch appealed to me ( #93).

Part of my Counterfeit kit this month was this busy and bright "Herbanella"  paper from AMM.
I wanted to use it up, which is why it went in my Counterfeit kit in the first place.
Looking at the circles printed in 2 corners, I decided inks etc weren't going to work,so I used plain white tags. I had the same thought about misting masks and gesso, hence I was left with the paper plus flowers and chipboard.
The apricot frill is fabric .The jade green punched borders contrasted nicely. Black was the only colour alphas I had that matched.
The main flower is a spray from Petaloo, the other flowers are Kaiser and Prima.
The chipboard corner flourishes, left raw, are from Memory Maze(C0139).

Lemon sorbet at Counterfeit Kits

Challenge #3 at Counterfeit Kits this month is to create a page based on your favourite ice cream flavour or ice cream shop.
Mine is and has always been lemon sorbet.
When we were in Italy I loved stopping at a gelato stall for a sorbet.
This stall at the entrance to Pompeii had freshly made lemon sorbet....delicious!
I've used lots of things from this months Counterfeit Kits:- the flags on toothpicks, the circular month
tag, the heart shaped Memory Maze chipboard arrow, the yellow lace, the washi tape, the tabs and the alphas.
In fact because all this was set aside in a pizza box I just added as I created.
That's what I love about Counterfeit kits!!!

Colour me scrappy with Nike

After a heading like that you all expected to see running shoes right?
No,this is a statue of Nike or The winged statue of Samothrace that we saw at the Louvre,in fact you can't miss it!

Colour me scrappy called for grid pattern and a black and white photo & using this colour palette.

I didn't have any B&W pictures so went with this fairly neutral idea.
(Thanks Mary for the statue inspiration)
The coloured squares are from Imaginisce "Apple cider" range.
The chipboard arrows are from Memory Maze. I've inked them with pinecone.
I also conveyed movement with a chevron mask behind the title.
My background paper from Kaiser and the journaling block are both gridded too.
There was an overwhelming urge to put something on this page crooked but I resisted.

A stampin' ,mistin' ,alphabet, number, border layout for CSI

I've been trying to use up alphas, so on this layout I started with them in 2 semi circles then stamped and misted over the top.
I placed wedding proofs on mats within the circles.
One of the requirements was numbers so I put the date of our wedding as part of the title plus a cloud of numbers and purposely left numbers on the proofs.
My title is on 2 different squares purposely, and other journaling etc were added after.

Chipboard technique for Scrapbooking outback

If you look closely at the celtic knot chipboard from Twiddlybitz on this layout you can see it looks rusty.
Here's how you go about it.
1. First buy a container of Rusting powder( from Twiddlybitz). It looks like fine grey iron filings.(It might be!)
2. Cover the chipboard shape with Mod Podge
3.Sprinkle with rusting powder, shake off the excess.
4.Place on newspaper or blotting paper.
5. Spritz with vinegar.Allow to dry overnight.
6.Using an old toothbrush over the surface when dry it will reveal the rusted look.
This can also be done on paper flowers.

Good morning everybody. This fortnight at Lollipop Ladies the challenge is musk lollies, remember these?
and the extra criteria is SPOTS.

Scrapping outback June 13th challenge

The layout to scraplift was this one by Trudi Harrison

and here's my take on it.
with a couple of close ups
I'm on a mission to use some of my flowers. Those who follow me will know I'm not a big flower user. The bronze rose is my last Prima one. I've added lots of co-ordinating autumn toned flowers, lace doiley and even a dragonfly brad here.

There's also two resin roses from Kaisercraft blossoms range, one is here.
I've used blue fern studios chipboard painted white and 3 paper doileys in my layering as well.

Friday 14 June 2013

Up Pompeii at From screen 2 scrap

The poster at From Screen 2 scrap is this

The extra criteria are a fence, a hot air balloon and gold or yellow lettering.
I had made some tags featuring stamped, embossed and acrylic topped hot air balloons. One of them says "up". I decided to use that with photos of Pompeii (Up Pompeii-get it?)
So here's my take.
I've used calico sewn on as my backing mat then paper in gold from Kaisercraft's Madame Boutique collection. This also matches my wide washi tape in gold.
The fence was misted with Sugar maple and tiny yellow roses are wound around the fence.

Counterfeit Kits scraps tutorial

http://millermall.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/tutorials.html
Milissa had these great ideas for stretching your dollar further with scrapbook items.

She says "Before I toss those little bits of papers that I think are too small for my scrap bin, I decide if I want to make an embellishment cluster from them.  If I love the paper enough for a "yes" then I pull out my punches, see what all goes together and voila!  I keep a little jar close at hand of all the little punches in there for those clusters that don't get made at once.  If it gets to be too overwhelming, I just bring my jar and a few other tidbits like stickers or filmstrip, whatever I have laying around, into the living room with me and make clusters while I watch TV with the family."
Here's her clusters
and here are some of mine
I also cut out some clouds, always a handy shape.....

Male Card at Use it Tuesday Use 057

Straight after the last post I discovered another card site with a Masculine theme as well.
Use it Tuesday wants us to make a masculine card using items from our stash.
Here's mine.

I've used the same beige background from Paper Pizazz Heritage 8x8 sheet pad.(Owned for around 2 years). The American Crafts striped paper annoys me because the stripes are uneven, but I've used it here.
The chipboard word and train are from Bella and have been stored away for quite a while(6 months???) as well.

Male card at Twisted Tuesday challenges

I like doing card challenges when I get time. The weather has been cold and rainy here today so I thought I'd go summery with this challenge. The twist at Twisted Tuesdays is to feature clothes on a masculine layout.
After searching around my stamps etc there was nothing,so I've come up with flowery board shorts. This could be for a young man holiday or birthday card.

CSI #75 and the Trevi Fountain

One of the best things about Rome was the Trevi Fountain. There was an atmosphere of relaxation and "joie de vivre". We saw 2 proposals there plus many other interesting things and yes, threw our coins in.
Here is the colour palette for this challenge
and here is my layout
Just about everything on here is from my Counterfeit kit.

Tuesday 11 June 2013

Scrap our stash,but I made a mistake.

I've just created a layout called "If I could turn back time."
It was meant for Scrap our stash as a masculine layout with 5 brads(There's 6).But when I just went back to check it was not only a masculine layout, but "scrap about a guy in your life".
Unless you count the Memory Maze Kangaroo, there is no guy on this layout.
DARN IT!
Here's the layout anyway, with lots of layering, misting, Purple pumpkin twine and even a tag featuring embossing. Enjoy!

A proposal at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge

I've gone back to an old technique of paper tearing for this page. The title is inked in silver through an alphabet stencil. There are 2 tiny pearl hearts sewn on the bottom of my journaling.
I focussed on the story on this layout. The 2 photos mark the place(s) it all happened.
I love the background paper on this. It is called "Chestnut saddle leather"

A win on Stuck?! sketches

http://julenebydesign.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/stuck-sketches.html

If you go back to this post you can read the details, but I just won a prize on Stuck?! sketches.
It is for this layout.

Artastic with recycled materials

You can always guarantee that if there is a challenge I will go outside the square and think of something different. In my case I chose to do a baby photo.
My layout  for Artastic, ended up rather shabby chic but much of it is recycled. The book papers are from an old encyclopaedia that I tore up.
The strip of vintage lace is from a petticoat of my mothers.
The other lace flower is cut from wedding dress scraps.
The 2 doileys were actually under a coffee at a local café (I knew they'd come in handy) and the shiny cream paper which I punched and inked was the back of a wedding invitation. The 2 chipboard flowers are from another layout that I dismantled.
I love the quote so wanted to use the fabric idea and run with it.

Saturday 8 June 2013

Something for almost nothing.

When my local Lincraft was closing I bought 6 mini card and envelopes for 25 cents.
I also bought some white adhesive stickers for 30cents for 2 packets.
Add a bit of scrap paper and voila!
6 cute gift card(with envelopes) for 55 cents total.

Color room Warning long post!

Here's the palette
and my interpretation of it
I have had some Prima flowers from Finnabair in March to use up.
Despite the fact I hate 3d flowers on layouts I forced myself with this one and I'm pleased with results.
Firstly I misted through a doiley, then painted a Memory Maze chipboard swirl pink.
The prima flowers were originally gold, but aqua paint soon covered that.
I've also used Prima metallic flowers and tiny rosebuds in various colours.
Skeleton leaves provide a coloured backdrop and yellow lace has been added at LHS of photo.
Here are some close ups.

I liked the way the carousel horse's tail from the picture underneath became a swirl next to this flower.

not my normal style, but I think it is okay.
